Don't Lose the Fitness Motivation

We are on our fourth month in 2015, and by now many people have unfortunately lost the motivation to maintain their New Year's Resolutions. Even if you're one of those people, it's not to late to get back on the motivation train.

I spoke with the founder of Laura Loves Fitness, Laura DeAngelis, about some big motivations and also some guilt-free indulgences to help us stay on track with those goals. Laura is also a personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Hey there Laura. How are you today?

I'm doing great.

That's great to hear. We've been in Spring for a couple weeks now, and we are also seeing the New Year's resolution gym crew losing some steam. What are some of your top tips to help people better maintain those goals and continue to work hard?

Of course. We don't want them to start leaving the gym and leaving us lonely while we are working out there. The biggest trend I'd like people to start making is taking baby steps and making small changes. By letting those small changes accumulate, it will make a long lasting impact on your overall health and well-being and also make it easier to stick with all year and beyond.

Instead of focusing on the number of pounds you want to lose, focus on how you want to feel in the next couple months. It can be with your energy or to fit in your clothes a little more comfortably. By thinking about that, you will focus on the steps you can take on a daily basis to get there. The best part is that there are items out there that can help you along the way and make it all happen.

So what are some of these items? Do they refer to that fitness wear or something to make that healthy eating a little more fun?

So one of the biggest motivational tools we have out there that helps all of us at the gym is music. If you have a great playlist, it can help fuel you through that workout instead of throwing in the towel. Now we have the LG Tone Pro which is a wireless headset that rests on the shoulders and provides comfort too. It pairs with any music device, and once it's fully charged then you can get up to 10 hours of music listening time before the next charge. So that's a lot of time to listen to your music and forget about the burn and keep on working out.

And I love the fact that it's wireless because that's one thing that can easily get in the way of a workout. We don't want to lose focus because we are fighting to get our headphone cords out of the way. Then if you're doing cardio, the wire is swinging all over the place and there isn't a way to tie it down.

I agree, and this eliminates that problem. It's magnetic and everything stays nice and compact. It's also really light on our shoulders too.

That's perfect, and music is a top motivational factors because something fast-paced to distract us from the time.

You got it.

So what are some other things that can help us stay healthy this year?

Well, most of us realize that a strong immune system is your best defense against things like the cold, the flu, or any other bugs/viruses out there. What people may not realize is that 70% of your immune system is in your digestive tract. So if you take a pro biotic everyday then that will actually help promote the good bacteria in your digestive tract which will ultimately support your immune system.

Now Culturelle Health and Wellness is the one pro biotic out there that is 100% Lactobacillus GG which is the strain you hear about that is scientifically proven and naturally derived. Each of these capsules has 15 billion active cultures. There is even a version for vegeterians. So it's a simple step to take that pro biotic, eat your fruits and veggies and whole grains, get some physical activity on a daily basis, and try to get enough sleep. All of that together is a great formula for a stronger immune system.

Right, and by working to build that immune system it's not telling people they can't indulge from time to time. It's just a matter of having fewer indulgences and focusing on getting more of those necessary nutrients.

Yes, and if you read my blog a www.lauralovesfitness.com you will see that I would never tell someone to not have something. I love my own treats like chocolate and cupcakes and especially wine. So it's just about keeping things in check. And even better is that there is a new wine out there that will make us feel less guilty about having a glass at the end of a crazy day. It's from Brancott Estate called Flight Song. What is different is that the grapes from these wines are harvested a little earlier. This means they are naturally lighter in sugar and alcohol and even 20% lighter in calories. So if you had a crazy day and want a glass of wine, it's okay to have it and unwind a little. Relax, after all we all work hard and it's important to have downtime and find ways to decompress.

That's awesome, and we've also learned over the years that there are types of wines that have some important health benefits.

Absolutely. It's known for having antioxidants and there's nothing bad about those antioxidants. Plus it's a fun way to relax and calm down from a stressful day.

Awesome. Now where can people go for more information about being healthier and maintaining those resolutions?
