Dads and Grads with Jeana Lee Tahnk

Father's Day is just around the corner and you're probably also receiving those invitations for a high school or college graduate in your life. Now the question is what should you get them to show how much you love them and admire all their hard work? Should you resort to the always popular and common idea of some cash in their pocket or do you want something a little more personal?

Well, another idea is to check out some of the more practical or tech side of the gift bargain. I found some ideas for you with the help of Jeana Lee Tahnk, a tech expert and mother who knows all about the latest gadgets, gear, and wellness tips for making life easier.

Welcome Jeana. It's such a pleasure to have you on get to talk with you especially with June being a month full of graduation parties and also with Father's Day coming up. This is a time to really show how much we appreciate all of their hard work and how much we love them.

That's true. Thanks so much for having me. And yes, Father's Day is just around the corner and graduation are abound this month. While these are great moments to celebrate, they're really not always the easiest to give gifts for. I know I have trouble every year coming up with a great Father's Day idea for both my dad and my husband. So, I have a few ideas here that I think would be a great fit.

The first is a speaker, a portable wireless bluetooth speaker by JBL. It's called the JBL Charge by Harmon Audio. It has really amazing sound quality, and is about the size of a soda can. It has very loud and powerful sounds. The speaker itself comes in a range of colors like bright blue and green and then for the more serious dads there is black, of course. It's a great option for those outdoor parties and barbeques. The battery actually lasts for 12 hours, which I would say is pretty impressive.

And that really shows how much technology is playing when it comes to looking for that perfect gift for just about anyone in our life. Technology plays such a huge part that for so many people it's our right hand man.

It's amazing how much technology there is out there for really any interest and hobby that you have, and who doesn't love music. So this speaker is just great and as the name indicates, what is really neat is that it charges your mobile devices while music is playing. So it's a multi-functional, multi-tasking device. I love when technology does stuff for me and I don't have to do anything. So that's a great gift option for dad and grad (for anyone really).

And it's definitely an idea that everyone can use because in the summer, it can be something where if you're sitting out by the pool or on the beach and want a little music, everyone can enjoy it.

Absolutely. And speaking of the beach, it comes with a little neoprene case which is nice to protect it from the elements like the sand and when you're out by the water to protect from the salt water. You can also clip it on to your beach bag or even my husband clips it onto his golf bag when he's out golfing. It's a great gift idea.

And for music loving people like the grads because they seem to be wearing these awesome headphones now as a fashion accessory. And this is another product by JBL. These are the Synchrose E40 BTL Wireless Headphones. I know that's a really technological sounding name, but basically these are brand new wireless headphones that are compact and coming from JBL you can expect the same really high level of sound quality. They have a 16 hour battery life which is really impressive especially for the grads who wear their headphones all day long. One neat feature about these headphones is that they offer what's called Share Me Technology, which basically means that you can sync two pairs of headphones together to listen to the same thing at the same time.

And that's a very cool trend because you're right we are seeing that trend where at one point it was all about wanting to hide those headphones with the ear buds being discrete. Now they're embracing the bigger headphones that you would normally see a DJ or someone who works in radio utilizing.

Right, exactly. So when two grads want to listen to the same playlist or even two kids in the backseat of a car on a summer road trip want to watch the same movie and listen to the same thing, you can do that wirelessly. Which is nice because you don't have all of those wires (even tangled wires) to deal with anymore.

And that's a pain in itself because then once you go to pull it out of the drawer or wherever you are storing it, you have the cords to untangle because maybe you forgot to wrap it up in a decent way.

Right, exactly! I spend a couple minutes everyday untangling power cords. It's nice that there's a trend of everything going to wireless these days.

It is, because then it will cause a little bit less stress and what might have taken five seconds to pull out to enjoy has suddenly taken five or ten minutes.

Right, exactly! So we've covered the gift of technology, and now for dads I have a really neat practical gift. The gift of time!!

So www.cleanerfilters.com is a subscription service that delivers clean air filters to your door. They recommend changing the filter very 90 days. So there is a filter is in your heating and air conditioning system in your home and not many people know that those need to be replaced on a very regular basis. Maybe some people do it every year. They actually sent me a sample of a filter that was replaced 90 days ago, and even in 90 days you would be amazed at how much dirt, dust, pollen (especially this pollen season was really tough), and pet dander if you have any pets gets into the filter. It gets just really gross when you think about all of that circulating into your home. So yes, it's definitely a practical gift, but it's one that will check those to-dos off of dad's list and give him some extra time on the weekends to do whatever he wants to do.

And I can imagine what you were saying about an air filter in 90 days because in the summer months we are utilizing that more. It's so humid, and we want the house to be cool and don't want to feel like everything is just dripping down our face. So, I can only imagine how very easy it is for that filter to get dirty.

And then a special bonus for your audience...Cleaner Filters is offering 20% off and free shipping using the code DAD20 on their website. So again there is just a wide range of gift ideas here. Everything from audio to tech gadgets to the more practical subscription-based service. They're all gifts that I think any dad or grad would enjoy.

It really sounds like something to consider if you're struggling to find that perfect gift because we all know that when dads want something they are likely to just go out and buy it, and then when it comes time for birthdays and Father's Day the answer is “I don't know, just go with your heart”.

Right, exactly! So you can just go to www.jeanagetsthis.com for more information.
